How to Take Apart a Dirt Devil Vacuum Cleaner

Step-1: Disconnect the Power Supply

This depends on which model of dirt devil vacuum you are using. Most of the dirt devil vacuum models are designed with an external battery located on the side known as power brick. The unit is connected to the charging plug through a cable. So, find out the position of the battery and detach it. Keep the battery in a dry place.

Step-2: Cover the Floor and Place the Machine

Next, cover the floor with some newspaper. Otherwise, the opening handle can make the dirt and dust inside pop off and the floor can get messy. Place the vacuum horizontally putting the suction end on the floor and rotate it so that the frame side with handle is faced up.  

Step-3:  Detach the Handle

Now rotate the locking collar counterclockwise located at the base of the handle. If the collar is jammed, use a lubricating spray. Keep rotating until the collar comes off. Then, you need to simply detach the handle from the vacuum cleaner body and place it apart.

Step-3: Unscrew the Sections

While rotating the handle, you will find out a screw facing up. Now, take it out with the screwdriver and keep it in a box or a paper cup. Unscrew the rest and this will help you to take apart the machine into two sections. It is a good idea to take pictures before unscrewing screws to help you place them accurately later. 

Step-4: Release the Canister 

To place the release button near the bottom upward, rotate the dirt devil vacuum. You need to first hold the vacuum canister with one hand while pushing the release button with the other hand. After this, the vacuum dirt cup will be quickly released. Next, you have to pull out the filter and empty the canister using the garbage bag or garbage can. 

Step-5: Remove the Metal Plate

Now rotate the dirt devil vacuum on the floor making the brush-head or bristle facing upward direction. Now, unscrew the necessary sections planted on two sides of the roll. Here, you may need to pull away bristles from the frame to get access to screw heads. Finally, you can tug the metal plate from the bristles.

Step-6: Pull off the Brush Head

Remove the revealed screws in the frame and take off the brush head. Now you can pull out each part and clean them with a dry cloth. 

How to Take apart the Brush Roll on a Dirt Devil Vacuum Cleaner 

First, you need to Take off the plate and access the brush roll on the belt. To do that you need to unscrew four or six visible screws. This will make the bottom plate with notches to come off and you will see the belt and the brush roll. Now, pull out the brush roll evenly and gently.   

How to Change the Hose to Dirt Devil Vacuum 

To complete the cleaning job you should clean the vacuum hose beside the filter. First, set the cleaner in an upright position and unwrap the hose from the caddy. You can just vacuum with the empty hose-end or use some tool attachment. There are an extension wand and crevice tool to offer extra reach. This is very helpful to reach tight spaces and crevices. When you are done put the hose back into attachment and the hose end into the hose connection.

Lay your Dirt Devil on one of its sides making attachment of the handle facing in an upward direction. Now, turn the collar in a counterclockwise direction and Grip the handle. Pull the handle away from the locking collar and keep pulling the handle until the end comes free.
